Apprenticeship Program
The United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP), is a formal military training program that provides active duty Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard service members the opportunity to improve their job skills and to complete their civilian apprenticeship requirements while they are on active duty. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) provides the nationally recognized “Certificate of Completion” upon completion. The State of North Carolina will also provide a “Certificate of Completion.”
SIMPLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Be active duty Marine Corps, Navy, or Coast Guard, and
- Be designated in a MOS/Rating, and
- Have sufficient time to complete the program while on active duty, and
- Possess a high school diploma or GED, and
- The selected trade must be in your primary MOS/RATE at your command, and
- Have the required documentation (i.e. From service record book/record jacket: Marine – page 3, Sailor – page 2)
EASY TO COMPLETE
USMAP requires no off-duty hours and, depending on how long you have been in the military, you can be granted up to half of the required on-the-job training hours for military experience. There is no testing involved, the program only requires you to log your hours every day at work and to submit those recorded ours every six months until your program is complete.

USMAP enhances your job skills and shows your motivation for more challenging military assignments. Having a DOL and NC Certificate of Completion is a definite advantage in getting better civilian jobs since employers know the value of apprenticeships.
