A list of Internet links is provided below. A brief description of the site is listed to assist the student in locating the site that best fits their needs. Questions can be directed to any Education Counselor within the Lifelong Learning Branch.
ACE Guide Online. The Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services is the standard reference work for recognizing learning acquired in military life. The guide will list what recommended college credit a student can possibly receive for a specific course. This guide is used to look up courses by course number or course name. Counselors use this guide to assist military members in correcting their SMART transcripts.
Defense Activities for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES). DANTES supports the off-duty voluntary education programs of the Department of Defense and conducts special projects and development activities in support of education related functions. This is a great site to find resources to assist the student in planning their education goals.
Montgomery GI Bill (VA). This site provides information, rates, and answers frequently asked questions about the MGIB program and how a student can use their MGIB to pay for their college education and certification tests. This program can be used by active duty personnel and personnel who have exited the military.
Sailor/Marine ACE Registry Transcript (SMART). One of the most popular Internet sites, SMART provides a full transcript of schools and courses for which the government has paid for the student to attend. ACE provides recommended college credit for the completed courses. This transcript MUST be sent to the school the student wishes to attend in order to have their military training evaluated for college credit. An official transcript can be requested through the education center.
Servicemembers Opportunity College. Servicemembers frequently move from place to place, causing them to have trouble completing college degrees. Within each curriculum or degree network, member colleges agree to accept each other's credits in transfer. Use this site to locate member colleges and find out more information about the SOC program.
Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET). This site provides a list of a Marine or Sailors MOS's that they have held. The VMET takes the military MOS description and converts it into civilian terms for use on a resume. When visiting this site, click on the "DoD Community link" and follow the directions to access your VMET Transcript.
