Lejeune Testing Center

Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune is authorized by DoD to administer various Military Classification Tests, DANTES Tests, and various National Certification Examinations.

Personnel requesting to take College Entrance exams (i.e. ACT/SAT) and other military classification tests to qualify for a military program should take them at least eight (8) weeks prior to the application deadline (particularly for Officer Candidate Programs) to allow enough time for their scores to post in MCTFS. “Rush scoring” does not exist for ACT/SAT or any Military Classification Tests.

ALL TESTS ARE SCHEDULED BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!

DANTES TESTING INFORMATION

There are a wide variety of tests available through the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) to help personnel earn college credit in almost every subject area.  A brief description of available exams is provided below:

  • CLEP General Examinations:  These tests measure college level achievement in five main areas:  English Composition, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Science, and Social Sciences and History.  Colleges may award up to six (6) semester hours of college credit.
  • CLEP Subject Examinations:  These exams are available in nine (9) different subject areas.  Colleges may award three or more semester hours of credit for each test successfully passed.
  • DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSSTs):  DSSTs cover both college level subject matter and vocational/technical matter.  Tests are available in 37 subject areas.  Colleges may award you up to three (3) semester hours of college credit for each test successfully passed.
  • Excelsior College Examinations:  ECEs are used to meet specific college degree requirements and are accepted for credit by nearly 900 educational institutions worldwide.

Students are strongly encouraged to speak with their advisors to obtain a list of exams accepted by the institution.  Failure to do so may result in expended effort, time, and money taking exams that may not apply towards the student’s degree program.

Tests are free to active duty and active reserve military members.  Eligible retirees, DoD civilian employees, family members, and civilians attending on-base schools must pay the appropriate fees associated with the exams.  Check with a testing center representative to determine eligibility.  The advantages of testing out of a class include:

  • Saving time and money – today’s college classes are expensive and time consuming
  • Earning college credit without attending traditional classes
  • Studying and preparing at the student’s own pace – anywhere or anytime
  • Successful testing can accelerate degree completion and graduation.

Be advised that these exams are not easy.  They require proper preparation and adequate study time.  Study materials are available:

The Lifelong Learning Testing Office maintains a limited number of ECE Objective exams in stock.  In stock exams may be administered during normal CLEP/DSST testing.  Objective exams not in stock must be specially ordered a minimum of six (6) weeks prior to the administration date.

All ECE Essay and Mixed Format exams must be specially ordered.  These exams are only offered at various times throughout the year.  Students must pre-register a minimum of six (6) weeks prior to the administration test date established by ECE.  ECE exams are free to active duty and active duty reserve personnel.  Eligible non-military personnel will be required to pay appropriate test fees.

PROCTORING INFORMATION

The Lifelong Learning Branch does not have computer capabilities and can only administer paper-based exams.  However, the Camp Lejeune Library (main branch) offers limited proctor services for computer-based testing.  The Library follows the same proctor administration guidelines as the education center (Building 825).

Alternate proctor test sites are available to all students.  Please be aware that these sites may require proctor service test fees.  These sites are not sponsored, nor supported by, the Lifelong Learning Branch, Marine Corps Community Services.
